Event on Dec 3: Why American Higher Education Needs An Overhaul
Join JFI fellow in higher education finance Marshall Steinbaum and other experts in-person at the Century Foundation in the Flatiron district on Wednesday, December 3.
From the event description:
Join us for the presentation and discussion of a new proposal to fundamentally remake American higher education.
American higher education is in crisis, with the existing system failing students, workers, and the public at large while catering to an elite few. Yet, in recent years, few bold proposals have emerged to fundamentally fix higher education, even as the Trump administration wages a high-profile war on colleges and universities.
Join leading experts in New York City on Wednesday, December 3 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM ET for a discussion on how to rebuild American higher education from an engine of inequality to a pillar of the public interest. The event will feature a presentation and panel discussion featuring new research into the factors that have led to our current crisis, as well as different ideas to truly make higher education a system that works for everyone.
Light refreshments will be provided.
Featuring:
- Julie Margetta Morgan, president, The Century Foundation
- Marshall Steinbaum, assistant professor of economics, University of Utah and senior fellow in higher education finance, Jain Family Institute
- Jenna Chernega, president, Independent Faculty Organization and co-chair of Politics and Policy for Higher Education Labor United (HELU)
- Moderator: Adam Harris, senior fellow in education policy, New America
Presented by The Century Foundation, Jain Family Institute, and Higher Education Labor United.
