Friederike Schuur

Friederike was a JFI Fellow embedded in the United Nations’ Global Pulse team working on how we, all of us, might enjoy the benefits of big data and AI safely and sustainably, fairly and equitably. Friederike fell in love with data and wants to continue to be excited about emerging technological and algorithmic capabilities. Prior to JFI, she established and led the data science team at Cityblock Health to bring quality care to more people. At Fast Forward Labs, acquired by Cloudera, she led applied machine learning research initiatives and established the company’s data strategy consulting practice.
Friederike is co-chair of the Data Advisory Board of The Hive, USA for UNHCR. She was a 2020 92Y Women in Power Fellow and 2019 Assembly Fellow at the MIT Media Lab and the Harvard Berkman Klein Center. She earned a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from University College London (UK) and Masters degrees in Cognitive Science and Philosophy from Radboud University Nijmegen (NL).
