A pre-analysis plan for Stockton
Since the announcement of the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration (SEED), JFI has served as a partner in advising the research design of the municipal cash transfer pilot. Today, SEED published the pilot’s pre-analysis plan, whose authors include JFI Director of Research Sidhya Balakrishnan and JFI Fellows Kapu Rao and Gary Tan.
The pre-analysis plan ensures the research scope is defined in advance of implementation, to ensure greater validity to the research design as well as transparency. It lays out the key questions and research design for Stockton’s 125-person, $500/month guaranteed income pilot. The key questions of study are:
- How does GI impact volatility?
- To what degree do changes in income volatility alter financial well-being, psychological distress, and physical functioning?
- How does GI generate agency over one’s future?
The full pre-analysis plan is available on the Stockton SEED website here.
